Hi, everyone. I have just returned home from the RPM Promoters workshop in Reno. This year marks the ninth year I have made the trek over the mountains into Reno. For those of you that don’t know, The Promoters workshop is where most of the coming racing season’s schedules are worked out, there are several informative workshops presented intending to help race track operators improve and adapt for the future. Not to mention lots of bench racing and partying…It is always a great time. This year was no different. As usual it was a great time; I’ll soon be heading back to the gym! With all that being said, this year I have some good news to report.
First of all I am happy to announce, after several months in the planning stages BCRA has added a Vintage Hardtop division. The division will be a competitive division based on the rules utilized at Vallejo speedway in the 60’s and 70’s. While actually a “Vintage” division they will engage in “Spirited” exhibitions. I guess that is the politically correct way to state it. These cars are not easy to find, especially the bodies, so it has been decided that BCRA will allow competition, while maintaining a healthy respect for the history and availability of the cars. The BCRA Vintage Hardtops will begin competition April 2013 at Petaluma Speedway, all tolled they will run 10 races for BCRA in 2013 with Four races at Petaluma, Three at Marysville Raceway Park and one at Placerville Speedway and two at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway. One of the Chico races will be Thursday night September 5th as part of the Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions weekend. Silver Dollar Speedway Promoter Dennis Gage is planning a nostalgia night that will include several classes with a tie into the rich history of this event.. When the Hardtops visit Placerville in August they will be on the card along with the Midgets and Midget Lites for the Annual Jack London Hall of Fame Picnic and Bash. The time seems to be right to add the Hardtops back to the club. There was a time when they, were a very strong division for BCRA and have placed several members into the Hall Of Fame; Owners, Drivers and Officials. I am very pleased to welcome the cars and people back into BCRA. I would also like to thank promoters Dennis Gage, Rick Faeth, Alan Handy and Paul Hawes for giving this new/old division a chance to gain some steam. Watch for them in 2013! Finally a large reason Linda and I attend the workshop is to get the schedules set up for the coming season. I am very pleased to announce that for the most part the Midget and Midget Lite schedules as well as both vintage division schedules; Midget and Hardtops are just about set for 2013. As of this writing, the Lites will run 16 races at all the usual tracks. They will have four at Petaluma including the Soares Classic night, four at Marysville six at Placerville and one each at Antioch, Bakersfield. I am trying to work out a second date for the North/South Civil War Series between CLS and BCRA.The Bakersfield race being the first leg of North/South deal. I would again like to thank Paul Hawes of Marysville for inviting the Lites back. Next up is the Vintage Midget division, while I don’t have the exact details of their 2013 schedule. I do know they are on the card for the Gold Cup in September; they will be back at Lakeport and Ukiah as well as Madera. Finally to the Midget division; as it stands right now the midgets will run 11 pavement races and 9 dirt races. They will also be on the card at the Gold Cup. They will visit Petaluma, Ukiah, Lakeport, Roseville, Stockton 99, Placerville, Antioch and Madera. Work is still being done behind the scenes to make a tri sanctioned race happen in Roseburg Oregon. Details are being finalized, so all of the division’s schedules can be posted in the very near future. keep your eyes posted here for schedule updates. Finally don’t forget to send in your possible rule changes and don’t forget the rules meetings for both divisions December 15th at Mountain Mikes Pizza in Manteca. Finally; on behalf of the BCRA Board Of Directors and our staff I would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Please stay safe out there on the Highways. Now it is back to the garage. See ya -Rick
